Attendance

Please remember that all absences need to be reported daily on our Attendance Hotline (951) 294-6601

Homework

Homework may be requested for a student who is ill on the third day of absence. Teachers have 24 hours to prepare work for the request. The work will be available in the office for pick up. Students will have two days for every day that they were absent to make up their work.

TVUSD ATTENDANCE POLICY

The Governing Board, of the Temecula Valley Unified School District, believes that regular attendance plays a key role in the success a student achieves in school. Attendance accounting for a maximum number of absences for students in grades six through twelve shall be based upon period attendance. The sole purpose of this requirement is to emphasize the importance of school attendance.

Any student who is absent more than nine times in any one period, may have his/her citizenship grade lowered.

ALL ABSENCES MUST BE CLEARED WITHIN 15 DAYS OF THE ABSENCE.

A student who has an injury or a serious illness that requires an absence of seven (7) days or more may be dropped from the regular attendance rolls and be placed on home or hospital teaching.

Absences that CAN be excused include:

  • illness with a doctor's note
  • appearance in court when documentation is presented
  • attendance at an employment conference
  • carrying out responsibilities as a custodial parent with documentation
  • Medical and dental appointments with a doctor's note.

The following notification schedule will keep parents informed about their child's attendance and the consequences of excessive absences:

  • Six (6) days of absence per period: Letter to parent pointing out the approaching limit and consequences.
  • Eight (8) days of absence per period: Letter to parent indicating the student is about to reach the limit-final warning and conference with the student.
  • Ten (10) days of absence per period: Student's citizenship grade may be lowered one grade. (i.e. O to S)
  • Twelve (12) days of absence per period: Student's citizenship grade may be lowered another grade. (i.e. S to N)
  • Fourteen days of absence per period: Student's citizenship grade may be lowered another grade. (i.e. N to U)

Tardies are also an area of concern when discussing regular attendance. If a student receives 3 or more unexcused tardies (excess of 30 minutes or more during the school year) they will be considered truant and letters and/or a referral will be sent to the Student Attendance Review Board. Please go over the Bella Vista Middle School Tardy Policy with your student.
